HOW-TO: Мost common questions about suspended ceilings

In the following article we answer the three most common questions about suspended ceilings. We provide you with further information about the types of construction and how to install the plasterboard cladding and how to choose the type of hangers suitable for any particular space.

What are the main types of suspended ceiling construction grid?

There are two main types of suspended ceiling construction grid: installation level on one level and installation on two levels.

The suspended ceiling on one level is made only of CD profiles in one plane, and the distance between them should not exceed 500 mm in the case of transverse mounting of the boards. This type of construction is suitable for rooms with low heights, as well as for long and narrow corridors.

The suspended ceiling on two levels is made of a grid of CD profiles in two separate planes.

The upper grid of CD profiles is called the main one, because the hangers are mounted to it and the distance between the individual profiles is from 500 mm to 1200 mm depending on the weight of the plasterboard cladding. The lower grid of CD profiles is called the supporting one, because the plasterboard is mounted to it. The distance between the individual profiles is 500 mm for transverse mounting of the panels. The two-level construction is suitable for rooms with a higher light height. This type of construction has easier installation and allows significantly higher loads.

What should we consider when installing a suspended ceiling cladding to avoid cracks in the joints?

Gypsum boards always has to be mounted perpendicular to the CD profiles, and the joint on the short side of two consecutive boards must be positioned on the CD profile. Cross-joints should also be avoided, and the joints should always be separated from the individual boards, both in the plane of the layer and between the individual layers.

What are the main criteria for choosing a suitable hanger, depending on the characteristics of the room?

The choice of a suitable hanger depends on several basic parameters. The first parameter is whether there is a limit in the height for descent, the second is the expected weight of 1m2 of plasterboard cladding and the third parameter is whether there is a risk of physical impact on the plasterboards in the room. By answering all these questions, you can choose the most suitable hanger, according to your needs. You can find more information regarding the different hanger types here.
