HOW-TO: Basic technical rules to follow when working with gypsum mixtures during winter
At the beginning of March we answer two of the most frequently asked questions about working with dry gypsum mixtures during the winter months of the year. By sticking to the following recommendations during periods of cold and wet weather, you will solve the problems that could appear when applying dry gypsum mixtures
What should be the minimum temperature when working with dry gypsum mixtures?
The optimum temperature in indoor areas where dry gypsum mixtures are applied is between + 5 ° С and + 25 ° С. This is very rarely achieved during the cold months of the year. To ensure high quality workmanship, it is necessary to provide an average daily temperature above + 8 ° C, as at temperatures below + 5 ° C, chemical processes are slowed down, which leads to uneven drying, high risk of freezing and compromising the quality of the finished surface.
What further treatment/maintenance is needed for the treated surfaces?
To ensure uniform drying, the treated surfaces must be protected from direct sunlight, wind and freezing. If the main surface is likely to freeze before it is completely dry, it is best to postpone the operation, otherwise it is possible that areas with cracks, reduced strength, or delamination from the base after drying will appear.
