How to Build a Wall Niche?
In this video we demonstrate how to quickly and easily build a wall niche in a wall lining from UA profiles.
Tools and products you need:
- Premium Profile UD
- Premium Profile UW
- Self-drilling Screw, TEX
- Moisture Resistant Gypsum Plasterboard Type H2
- Drywall Screw 3.5 x 25
- Self-drilling Screw
- Tape Measure
- Pencil
- Level
- Tin Snips
- Drywall Screwdriver
- Cross Line Laser
- Drywall Saw
- Drywall Rasp
Here are the steps we followed:
*In our case we are building the niche directly over the wall hung toilet system which we showed last week and we use its centre as a guide when measuring the dimensions of the niche.
How to install a wall hung toilet system to in a wall lining from UA profiles: https://www.technogipspro.com/en/articles/article54.html
We start by outlining the centre of the niche. We measure the desired length and width of the niche and mark the contours with a pencil and a level to ensure perfectly straight lines.
We cut pieces of the UD profile with the same dimensions as the length and width of the niche and fix them to the wall with the suitable fasteners.
We measure two UW profiles and cut their ends at a 45-degree angle to create a stronger connection when fixed to the frame of the lining. We place the UW profiles at the same level as the top and bottom of the niche and fix them to the peripheral UA profiles of the wall lining with self-drilling screw, TEX.
We proceed to the closing of the wall lining with the moisture resistant plasterboard type H2. We measure the board and with the use of a drywall saw we cut holes where all the elements of the wall hung toilet systems are so that it can fit nicely to the board.
We fix the board to the vertical end profiles and the horizontal UW profiles with drywall screws 3.5 x 25 then cut a hole along the contours of the niche with a drywall saw and smooth the edges with a drywall rasp.
We cut two more pieces of UD profiles with the height of the niche and fix them to the backside of the board at the edge, then cut four pieces of plasterboard type H2 – two with the height and depth of the niche and two with the width and depth of the niche. The long pieces we fix to the vertical UD profiles on both sides, and the other two pieces we fix to the top and bottom part of the niche to close it.
Finally, we fix the wall lining to the peripheral UA profiles with self-drilling screw.
