How to separate a laundry area in the kitchen, choose the right plasterboard to combine with FUGA Hydro and fix a damaged outer corner

Today we provide more information on the following subjects: how to separate a laundry area in the kitchen, what boards you should use in combination with FUGA Hydro and how to fix a damaged outer corner.

Read more here:

Question 1: I want to separate a laundry area in my kitchen for washing machine and dryer? Is there anything specific I should take into consideration?

Answer: You can separate a small laundry area in the kitchen by installing a partition wall Technogips Pro W1-1 with a single construction of Premium profiles CW/ UW 50 and lining of moisture resistant gypsum plasterboard type H2. For better sound insulation we recommend taping the peripheral profiles with Acoustic tape 45 mm and adding mineral wool between the vertical profiles.

We recommend filling the joints between the boards with FUGA Hydro and glass-fibre joint tape for optimal protection against humidity.

Question 2: What boards should I use in combination with FUGA Hydro? ⠀

Answer: FUGA Hydro is Technogips Pro moisture resistant joint filler developed specifically for application in premises with high humidity up to 70%.

For optimal results we recommend using FUGA Hydro in combination with:

  • Moisture resistant gypsum plasterboard type H2 – for premises with increased humidity up to 70% for short periods of time, where there is no direct contact with water.
  • Premium board Blue Board type GMFH1IR – for interior application in premises with extremely high humidity (including condensation), suitable for areas with regular direct contact with water.

Joint filling and skim coating the boards with FUGA Hydro will provide additional protection to the surfaces against moisture penetration and will prevent the growth of mold and mildew.

Question 3: How to fix a damaged corner on a plasterboard wall at home?

Answer: Sometimes outer corners can get broken or damaged. Fortunately, they are quick and easy to repair.

Start by dismantling the old corner with a joint knife. Again, with the joint knife smooth any unevenness.

For the new corner we recommend using Premium aluminum angle bead. Measure the length of the angle bead according to the height of the wall and crop its edges at a 45-degree angle for an easier installation.

Apply a layer of gypsum-based joint compound FUGA or the all-purpose joint compound FUGA and FINISH Light along the entire height of the wall and fix the angle bead.

You can proceed to skim coating the wall. For better protection against cracks, we recommend placing glass-fibre joint tape before coating.
